Interview Process
The teacher interview process is a multi-step progression that seeks to find teachers who are not only pedagogically sound, but who understand and are willing to fulfill the mission.
1. Candidates must possess a valid teaching credential or be able to demonstrate participation in a program which
will provide a credential.
2. Teachers first submit a cover letter, resume, and two letters of reference. Potential candidates are invited to visit
the school, observe classrooms, and meet with teachers and administration.
3. Candidates may then be offered an interview, which consists of teaching a 20-minute demonstration lesson to families, students, teachers, and administration, a question and answer session followed by time for the candidate to ask questions of the school community.
Information about demonstration lessons:
Sample Lesson: At the interview, you will be asked to prepare a 20-minute lesson as if you were teaching
in a normal classroom setting. It is important that you actually teach the lesson and not talk about the lesson you
would teach. You will have an active audience. The interview panel will consist of students, parents, teachers, and
school administrators.
Materials: Your lesson should address specific skills and/or content pertinent to your subject area. You are encouraged to bring any materials you need in order to effectively deliver the lesson. We will have a whiteboard, an overhead projector and a LCD projector available for your use. If you would like additional direction about the content of the lesson, please contact the school. The demonstration lesson is the best opportunity for you to demonstrate your ability to reach DCP's target student.
Post-Lesson: After the demonstration lesson, there will be time dedicated to question and answer. You can expect
to be asked questions about DCP's mission, our target student, curriculum development, collaboration, and best
practices in your curricular area. You will also have an opportunity to ask members of the panel anything you
would like to know about DCP. The interview will last approximately one hour.
